Explore Dunkirk your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Dunkirk tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Dunkirk for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Walk the Dunes de Flandre between Leffrinckoucke and Bray-Dunes, learning to identify marram grass, orchids, and migratory shorebirds from discreet viewing points. You can also cycle the seafront path to the Dune Dewulf Reserve, scan for terns and waders, and finish with a simple beach picnic.

Day trip tours: Spend a day in Ypres, visiting the In Flanders Fields Museum, Tyne Cot Cemetery, and the preserved trenches at Sanctuary Wood, with a quick stop for frites in the Grote Markt. Or head along the Opal Coast to Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez for cliff walks, lighthouse viewpoints, and Channel panoramas.

Museums tours: Step into the Operation Dynamo Museum at Bastion 32, then tour the Port Museum to board the tall ship Duchesse Anne and explore exhibits on the harbour’s trading past. Add contemporary art at LAAC and FRAC Grand Large, both a short walk from the Malo-les-Bains beach.

The centre and beachfront are very walkable, and the DK'Bus network offers frequent, free buses across the metro area; for dunes on the outskirts or cross-border day trips, book a chauffeured tour or ask your local guide about private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Dunkirk inside and out.

- Lille, France: Vieux-Lille brings grand façades, boutiques, and one of France’s top art museums, plus lively food halls and patios; if you like design and street life, it’s simple to focus your time on historic blocks and a few key galleries.

- Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez, Opal Coast: Walk cliff paths above wide beaches and old wartime sites, with big views toward England on clear days; photographers and hikers can keep it outdoors while history fans add nearby batteries and memorials.
