We will explore just how the UNESCO declared World Heritage Site that is Château de Versailles, and learn how it became a chateau in the first place, how Louis XIV actually acquired the name of Sun King, how he grew up, and how he strategically maintained monarchical power. We'll discuss just how the monarchs' lifestyles affected the french people, and how their excesses resulted in the guillotining of King Louis XVI and his unpopular, yet exceptionally stylish, wife Marie-Antoinette during the French Revolution. This was the second of three tours my wife and I booked with Sunday on our long weekend in Paris. The full-day tour includes both the palace and the gardens. It was a lot of walking but Sunday's knonwledge of art and history made for a truly fascinating visit.

Our full day tour of Versailles with Sunday was truly one of the great highlights of our trip to France. Sunday provided a great pace to a long, but wonderful, day of the grandeur of the Palace and the beauty of its gardens. The Petit Trianon and Marie Antoinette's rural village were particular favorites. Sunday met us at the train station, and our trip to Versailles was easy and worry free. Plus, she was great fun throughout the day. We highly recommend Sunday!
Your Paris tour itinerary
·Our tour will start traveling to Versailles from Paris by train altogether. ·Reaching Versailles, we will head right towards the Palace for exploring it, learning about the history of the French Kings, and also importantly, the lives of some key figures in French history, Louis XIV the Sun King, as well as Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette. -We will begin covering the Royal Apartments, which will show you the ways the monarchy lived, their lifestyles, the oddities surrounding a King's life, the excesses, and you'll learn how these excesses resulted in revolution. -From the palace interior, we will then make our way outside into the magical Versailles Palace Gardens designed by Andre Le Notre. -Afterwards, we will head to the Trianon Palace, home to Marie Antoinette. -Finally, we will cap our day off with a picnic in the Gardens (weather allowing), or otherwise grab a bite in the town of Versailles, before heading back to Paris. Please note I'm more than happy to customize this tour accordingly!
