Do you want to hear the stories behind the art? Then visit the Musee d'Orsay with a knowledgeable private art expert! Although my visit to the Musee d'Orsay focuses on the paintings of the Impressionists, we will cover a large range of artistic styles and movements of the XIX century. This tour will allow you to understand the origins of Impressionism, its development, and the reasons why it was rejected by most of French society and by art critics at the time. As well as simply admiring their lively, luminous paintings, you will also be encouraged to note the individual style of each Impressionist and will learn about their lives in order to better understand their works. IMPORTANT: No tours are allowed in the Musee d'Orsay on bank holidays such as May 8th, July 14th, August 15th, November 11th in 2026.

The tour covers the major masterpieces of the museum including impressionist and post-impressionist paintings by Renoir, Pissarro, Monet, Sisley, Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh and many others. During the tour you will learn about the overall development of French styles in art during the second part of the 19th century, which were to become the foundation for modern art.
