The Musée d'Orsay was originally a train station built for the World Fair of Paris in 1900. But after the second World war, the train station was too small and the building was finally changed into a museum in 1986! Inside you will find artworks from 1848 to 1914: paintings, drawings, sculptures or furniture. The most famous paintings are the impressionists but to understand why they are so famous, it is important to know what was the academic art in France during the XIXth century and why the impressionist rejected it. The reserve collections are huge, that is why the museum change the artworks every Mondays when the museum is closed. I will show you a large view of the museum and if you want to stay after my tour, there are some cafeterias or restaurants to have a break.
- the academic paintings - the realistic paintings with Courbet-Millet - the painting of history: Gerôme - the impressionist paintings: Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézane. . . - The paintings of Van Gogh
