To be in a volcano is amazing, to be in an active volcano is an extreme experience, those are 2 reasons to be in Cotopaxi and add one more reason to be in a volcano in 16000 feet is unique. Do not think how high this volcano is , Think about the sensation of being on the Andes above 16000 feet and how easy was to get there. Observing the glaciers is so rewarding because you see how it combines with the clouds around the peak. To end, If we are lucky I hope We can see the magnificent condor.

We took Cotopaxi and Quilota lake tour with Gustavo. My adult daughter and I were visiting South America for the first time. We underestimated the effort to trek Cotopaxi. Gustavo alerted us and stayed with us and brought us back safely. We enjoyed our trek down to Quilotoa lake and the shopping experience in Quilota town. Gustavo stopped at small road-side shops so that we experienced great local foods. Gustavo is a safe tour guide, helpful, friendly, is always on-time. Would highly recommend him!

Gustavo was incredible! My husband & I were ambitious & wanted to hike both Cotopaxi & Quitoloa crater. He was so accommodating to our requests& recommended we start even earlier to complete both hikes. I was ready to quit Cotopaxi, but he patiently stayed with me & encouraged me to reach the Refuge at the slower pace while my husband forged ahead with our amazing local Cotopaxi guide, Maria. If I could give Gustavo 10 stars, I would do it. We had the best trip to Quilotoa and Cotopaxi, thanks to his planning. It is a difficult drive form Quito to Quilotoa, but Gustavo was a very competent driver and we were able to spend as much time there as we wanted. The drive up Cotopaxi is a challenge, but Gustavo knew a driver with a 4 wheel drive and arranged for him to meet us for our trip. Both guides scaled the volcano with us just incase one of us couldn't complete the journey. Best tour ever.
Your Quito tour itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel at 7 am. In one hour thirty minutes we are in Cotopaxi National Park. From here , 30 minutes driving , we get to the 4500meters and go hiking to the refuge José Rivas. The next stop is the Limpiopungo lagoon. From here we will go to Quilotoa . It takes 2 hours . We will see the volcano from the look out. If we have time we can walk down to the lake . To go back we can rent a mule Back to Quito around 4 pm to be in Quito at 7 pm. Recommend items to bring for this tour: Camera Copy of passport sun skin protector Snow cap or a hat glasses, gloves, scarf, rain jacket. Wear in layers. sim memory card extra battery for your camera Water to drink and snacks. Ask for a quotation if you are more than 2 people.
