Explore Manta your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Manta tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Manta for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike the humid forest in the Pacoche Wildlife Refuge to listen for howler monkeys and track birds with a local ranger, then continue to the coast to watch seabirds near the San Lorenzo lighthouse. In season, your guide can arrange a day tour to Machalilla National Park and Isla de la Plata for blue-footed booby nests and, from June to September, humpback whale watching.

Family tours: Start at Tarqui’s fish market to see tuna unloaded at sunrise, then roll up your sleeves for a simple ceviche or encebollado lesson using today’s catch. Kids love a hat-weaving demo in Montecristi where they can try a strand, followed by sand and kite time at Playa Santa Marianita.

Off the beaten path tours: Visit Pile village with a guide who knows master toquilla straw weavers, or head inland to a small tagua (vegetable ivory) workshop near Rocafuerte to watch carving and try polishing a bead. For a quiet nature stop, the Agua Blanca community’s sulphur lagoon offers a short museum visit and a soak guided by residents.

The waterfront core is partly walkable, but buses are limited and many sights sit kilometres apart; for day trips to Pacoche, Montecristi, or Machalilla, it’s easiest to book a chauffeured tour or ask your local guide about tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Manta inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Manta

Base yourself in Manta and line up easy day trips to nearby towns, forests, and beaches, using your tour to match the pace, the walking, and the wildlife or craft stops you care about.

Montecristi: Ten minutes inland, this hill town is known for toquilla straw weaving and tidy plazas; watch hat makers at work, browse simple workshops for quality crafts, and ride up to the viewpoint for wide bay views if you like short, manageable outings.

Pacoche Forest and San Lorenzo: A coastal refuge where howler monkeys and tropical birds move through ceibo trees, with cool, shaded trails that suit nature lovers; add the lighthouse and surf beach at San Lorenzo for sea views and fresh fish, and your tour can keep hikes light or longer.

Machalilla National Park and Los Frailes: South of Manta, this protected coast delivers calm swimming at Los Frailes Beach, short cliff walks with lookout points, and the Agua Blanca community with a small museum and sulphur lagoon, giving you a mix of scenery and low-key culture in one day.

Isla de la Plata: From Puerto López, boats head to a wildlife-rich island where blue-footed boobies nest and snorkelling spots sit close to shore; your tour handles boat times and trail choices, and from June to September you can scan for humpback whales on the way.

Santa Marianita: A wide, windy beach just down the road, good for kitesurfing in season and long shoreline walks any time, with simple seafood spots that make it easy to linger without a tight schedule.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Manta most travellers miss.
