Hello, My name is Hrvoje Dario. I'm of the Northern Croatia, and local of Zagreb and Varazdin. I've been working as a tour guide for a number of years now, guiding to every part of Croatia, as well as other countries in the region, such as Bosnia, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Austria. Beside stories and information, the four things I put the highest emphasis when guiding travelers are safety, respect, care and comfort. Travelers should always feel safe and comfortable, while being treated with care and respect. Being a traveler myself, I am well aware of the significance of a travel and the effect it has on us and those around us. In my free time I like to read, write, go to nature, visit interesting places, reading articles and books on history, psychology, anthropology, meditation, astronomy, sustainability. My travels have so far taken me across five continents; some journeys being in the Middle East, the Americas, South and Southeast Asia, North Africa, Europe etc. Beside having various other benefits, such travels have also exposed me to the work of international tour guides, which gave me insights into improving my own guiding tours. It is important to me that the travelers I guide feel relaxed and enjoy every moment of it, and to have a memorable experience. I also aim that you experience my country not just as a tourist, but rather to see how things are here, to get an understanding of its everyday life, and perhaps to even feel like a local. This tour entails a visit to a baroque town of Varazdin, founded in the medeival times, some of the most interesting castles and a castle ground in Croatia. These are Trakoscan castle (the most representative castle in Croatia), and the Old Town castle in Varazdin (we will see it from outside). All of those places hold a special significance and have lots of stories and legends. All of them are within a comfortable day tour from Zagreb. It is said that Zagorje region has the largest number of castles in Europe when considering the size of the region - around 50 of them! The region is a beautiful lush green area, relaxing, with lots of trees and hills, but it's not just landscapes that are of value, but the way of life that has endowed this region with a rich culture and hospitable folks. It's one of the main producer part of Croatia for many hundreds of years!
Did a tour to Trakoscan castle, Varazdin and a cave that dates back to Neanderthal times. My favorite stop was the castle. The tour was a great way to spend our first day in Croatia. Dario was a very good and knowledgeable guide. His English was very good. Plus he picked us up from our hotel in Zagreb and dropped us off at the end.
If visiting Zagreb, you must hire Dario for this tour. Stunning scenery and historical castles. Just outside Zagreb, it is well worth searching for this hour drive north for an off-the-beaten-path adventure with very few tourists. Dario is a friendly, knowledgeable guide willing to customize any tour.
Dario was helpful from the day we booked always there with answers to our questions since even before we met. On the day we met Dario and Sacha our driver, we instantly felt safe and in good hands. Dario was so full of information and with his calm and relaxed way he managed to make us feel as if we have known him for ever. Sacha kept us safe on the road and between the two of them they managed to give us a great and very informative memorable day in North Croatia. Thanks and hope to meet you again.
Dario arrived on time to meet me. He and his driver Sasha were excellent company- both very knowledgeable and interesting companions. Dario had arranged activities in which I was interested and I really enjoyed his comments on Croatian politics and current affairs. His knowledge of history and the region in which we travelled were very good and he added many personal touches to the day, as did Sasha. His knowledge of history is excellent and made the visit to Castle Trakošćan so much more interesting.
Dario was one of the best tour guides that I met during my recent trip to Croatia. He was extremely knowledgeable not only about his native northern region, but he also knows a great deal about the rest of the country, and he's very willing to share that knowledge with his clients. Generally speaking he was very concise and detailed-oriented when explaining the current political, economic and social situation of modern Croatia. I highly recommend Dario to new and returning visitors!
The tour starts from where you are staying in Zagreb (or anywhere else in Northern or Central Croatia). - We first go to Trakoscan castle, the most representative castle in Croatia, which is at a lake in the beautiful and hilly Zagorje region. It belonged to a noble Draskovic family. The castle itself is from the 14th century, renovated in the 19th century, which was one of the first renovation project of such caliber in these regions. - based on your interest, we can visit one of the most significant Neanderthal cave on our way to Varazdin. - Visiting the town of Varazdin, where we will see its gorgeous historical part, with buildings that date back to 17th and 18th century. We will pass by the iconic castle Erdody in the city center. The town is a truly special place that evokes wondering about the olden days, and soon relaxes you into its pace. - We end this tour where we started in Zagreb.
