The vast majority of enslaved Africans in the American colonies where brought to Brazil, more specifically to Rio de Janeiro. In a recent discovery, a slave cemetery was found in downtown area of Rio, where the Olympic Boulevard is now built. They also found an old port that received the largest number of African enslaved people in the world. In this tour, we will learn how the black people in Brazil resisted and resignified (and still do) their lives in the diaspora. We will talk about samba, Carnaval, capoeira, African religions, food, quilombos and so on. We will also talk about politics and structural racism. This is not so much a leisurely tour, but it is about education, memory and perception change.
