I've lived and worked all around South Africa, but Cape Town is my true home. I have a deep connection to this part of my country with my ancestors arriving here from Holland circa 1696! I had the opportunity to step back from a corporate career and take a breath. I did this as a tourist in my own country. Making travel and activity recommendations to local and international friends visiting Cape Town, I found I had become an accidental tour guide. I decided to become a full time professional and qualified tourist guide and it was the best decision I ever made. A keen amateur birder and photographer, time outdoors is where you will find me on my days off, as well as time with friends on safari, camping, wine tasting or enjoying a good braai (bbq). My outgoing personality has stood me in good stead in my 14 years guiding career. As a tourist in my own country, I am always exploring, learning and discovering roads less travelled with the gems they hide. My inquisitive nature has led to quite an extensive repertoire spanning various activities and topics - from the history of my country, our rainbow array of people and cultures plus food and wine. Sharing them through engaging story telling has become my niche. Let me peel back the layers of history of the start of South Africa as it began in Cape Town in 1652. Follow a narrative with visits to the various sites as significant & historical events unfold right before your eyes. Cape Town is the birthplace of so many aspects of modern-day South Africa. Get to know my city up close and personal, with a combination of walking through the streets, taking in sights and sounds, to driving along spectacular coastal roads with dramatic mountain & ocean vistas. A corporate career of almost 20 years has also contributed to my ability to speak eloquently, and ensures that travellers whose first language is not English, still have an enjoyable tour with me. I specialize in hosting smaller groups where we can create a touring experience that caters to everyone in the group. From multi-generational family groups to businessmen in town for a conference, my guiding skillset and energetic personality will both enlighten and entertain.
