I've traveled and worked all over South Africa, but Cape Town has always been home. My roots here run deep - my ancestors arrived from Holland around 1696! After years in the corporate world, I took a step back and explored my own country like a tourist. That journey led me to an unexpected passion: guiding. What started as giving travel tips to friends turned into a full-time career, and I’ve never looked back. Now, with 15 years of experience, I get to do what I love every day - sharing the incredible history, diverse cultures, and stunning landscapes of Cape Town with visitors from all over the world. When I’m not guiding, you’ll find me outdoors - birdwatching, photographing wildlife, camping, enjoying wine farms, or having a good old-fashioned braai (BBQ) with friends. I love exploring lesser-known spots, always searching for hidden gems to share. My passion for this vibrant city shines through in every tour I lead, whether I'm guiding visitors on top of the iconic Table Mountain, exploring the bustling streets of Bo-Kaap, or diving into the historical depths of Robben Island, I eloquently bring Cape Town’s stories to life. Known for my attention to detail, I ensure every experience is seamless and tailored to the unique interests of each guest. I specialize in personalized tours, ensuring an experience tailored to your interests - whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or are just here to soak up the beauty. Meeting fellow travelers and sharing this incredible city is what excites me most. Let’s explore Cape Town together - you’ll leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper connection to this special place. As a local myself, I appreciate the fact we have almost 400 years of wine making history! While I cannot choose one favourite, the Pinotage varietal is unique to South Africa and so it is a must try. On this tour, in the wine region of Stellenbosch, we'll explore the picturesque countryside outside of Cape Town, uncovering the story behind the uniquely South African grape varietal, treasured around the world. I'll tell you about its first labelling in 1961, the first international award it received in 1991, and you'll also get to hear stories of the award winning winemakers behind Pinotage; all while enjoying tastings on various estates! We'll actually visit the estate who won that very first award, now run by the grandsons of Paul Sauer, who owned the establishment at the time. Now grown around the world, South Africa remains the birthplace of Pinotage. Join me on a winelands tour and learn what makes South Africa's very own grape so special.
-After pickup, we'll drive to the first wine estate to win an international award for Pinotage on the farm Kanonkop, run by Paul Sauer's grandsons, the current custodians of his legacy. -On arrival, you'll enjoy an informative cellar tour & the "Pinotage Tasting". -A short drive down the road takes us to the "Home of Pinotage", established by Beyers Truter, the first internationally nominated winemaker of Pinotage in 1991. Enjoy a variety of reserve vintages. -Next, you'll take in serene vineyard views whilst enjoying great food including a signature dish called "the Pinotage Burger", at the Red Leaf Bistro. -Our final estate, Lanzerac Wines, is home to the first bottling under the Pinotage label in 1961. Steeped in history dating back to 1692, you'll experience legacy & country chic while tasting some limited release flagship wines honoring the role players in this estate's heritage. -Finally, we'll drive back to Cape Town.
