Good day I have been a tour guide offering private tours for 21 years and love sharing the history, culture and heritage of Cape Town on foot. To absorb the true spirit of a city, I believe this is best enjoyed by walking. My walking tours are a mix of history, heritage, culture, architecture, memorial art, and stories about people and events which have shaped our community today. I will be able to tailor the route around your interests, use a pace comfortable to you and it will give us a chance to engage and reflect about our history and culture. Cape Town offers a mix of colonial and political history; you will feel comfortable to engage and ask questions about any subject. I am a traveler also, so, understand firsthand the level of service and experience you are looking for. Timing is flexible, if need a coffee stop, or to visit inside a church on route for example. I never stop learning. We are lucky to have active museums, and historical societies, and I regularly attend evening lectures. I am a volunteer committee member for a local heritage society and organize excursions and speakers to generate funds for heritage preservation. My new volunteer role is to reignite our heritage blue plaque program, whereby blue plaques are established on buildings around the city to recognize people and events which have made a key contribution to our history. I am looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Cape Town. Overview of your Cape Town tour
Cape Town is a melting pot of cultures created by three and half centuries of colonial and political apartheid influences? The best way to absorb this rich tapestry of history is on foot and my walking tours are a feast of history, architecture, religious buildings, memorial art and stories about people and events which have shaped our community through to today. This tour takes around three hours, at a pace comfortable for you, and there will be opportunities to pause for refreshments on route. Do not hesitate to message me if you are in my home town. The following itinerary can be customized to suit your needs and interests. Feel free to contact me. Please note: on Saturdays the churches are closed and on Sundays the museums/churches are closed.
Your Cape Town tour itinerary
Meet at Truth Coffee 36 Buitenkant st District Museum: guided visit (around 20 minutes) Castle of Good Hope: guided visit (around 40 minutes) Grand Parade: City Hall (view outside), and view bronze statue of Nelson Mandela the site where he gave his first speech as a free man, February 11, 1990. Mutual Heights: our best example of Art Deco The Flower market. Two Minutes Silence memorial Slave precinct: memorial art, slave auctions site, and the Slave Lodge (view outside), gain an understanding of the history of enslaved lives at the Cape. Greenmarket Square: Town House and market St George's Cathedral: story of Archbishop Desmond Tutu (entry on request). Parliament buildings: view from the outside Company Gardens: a walk through the first landscaped garden in South Africa where the Dutch East India Company planted the first fruit and vegetables to supply the passing ships. This is a walking tour. No private transportation is offered, but I can hire a vehicle and driver on request for an additional fee. It is easy to take an uber or taxi to our meeting place. At the end of the tour, I will ensure you are safely in your uber, taxi or hotel car to travel to your next destination.
