My name is Ayelet, born, raised and live in Jerusalem, the most interesting and beautiful city. Although I live here all my life I look at my city each day as if it was the first time, and the more I study about the city, the more I feel her magic and complexity. Until I was ten I lived in an old apartment from the Ottoman era, the bathroom was outside the apartment, and in the courtyard there was still an antique water pump. Only after I grew up I realized that I was kind of living in another century. But this is what fascinates me in Jerusalem: when I stroll in the streets I'm not walking only through space, but also through time and it's great, so many historical periods greet me every day. I am an avid reader, so I see Jerusalem not only through my eyes but also through the eyes of writers such as Mark Twain and his hilarious view on Jerusalem, Selma Lagerlöf who wrote about the exciting journey of Nils Holgersson, but not less exciting and spiritual Journey to Jerusalem and other writers and travelers to Jerusalem. But authors are not the only eyes I look through, I'm trying to understand this place through the eyes of the people who live and travel here: Jews, Christians, Muslims, religious people, secular ones, people with different political views, people who love this city, people who hate it. And this helps me to guide with an objective point of view as much as I can. I'm a Jew and my husband is a Christian (it's very rare here), we have two grown-up children, and we love to hike in nature, I also love to study and discover the plants of Israel and even eat them. Palestinian cuisine relates to nature and gathering but also to the best desserts. On the other side, Israeli cuisine is from all over the globe, a magical fusion, join me and you will have the chance to taste some of it.
