My name is Ayelet, I was born and raised in Jerusalem, the most interesting and beautiful city. Although I have lived here all my life, I look at my city each day as if it was the first time, and the more I study about the city, the more I feel its magic and complexity. Until I was ten I lived in an old apartment from the Ottoman era; the bathroom was outside the apartment, and in the courtyard there was still an antique water pump. Only after I grew up I realized that I was kind of living in another century. But this is what fascinates me in Jerusalem: when I stroll in the streets I'm not walking only through space, but also through time and it's great, so many historical periods greet me every day. I am an avid reader, so I see Jerusalem not only through my eyes but also through the eyes of writers such as Mark Twain and his hilarious view on the land of Israel, Selma Lagerlöf who wrote about the exciting and spiritual journey to Jerusalem, and other writers and travelers who visited us. I'm trying to understand this place through the eyes of religious people, secular ones, people with different political views and diffrent religion, it helps me guide with an objective point of view as much as I can; I believe in the right of Jews, Muslims, Christians, and all to live here peacefully. I'm a Jew, and my husband is a Christian (it's very rare here), we have two grown-up children. We love to hike in nature and to learn about the plants of Israel and of course we love the great food here, if you'll join me you can taste some of it too. Hope to see you, Ayelet • 2-year tour guide course, School of Tourism- a Tour Guide Certificate (Hebrew and English) • A license to guide tours under the supervision of the Ministry of Education-School Guide Certificate I am not a driver. The eastern Bazaar In the Muslim Quarter is full of colorful shops attracting the eye, and it is also the market of the locals with authentic Arabic food, with the best Hummus, Falafel, Knafeh, Tahini, and more. Near Damascus gate, women farmers sit on the floor and sell fruits, vegetables and all kinds of herbs that they gather in the hills around Jerusalem. In the west, the lively Mahane Yehuda Shouk that began to develop on Jaffa Road in the 19th century is today a market where you can see the old generation carrying baskets full of vegetables while the young sit in modern cafes and enjoy the atmosphere, and the variety is dazzling here. Between those 2 markets, we have 2 worlds, the Old and the New, the Arabic and the Jewish, the East and the West, two worlds that are separate but also have a strong connection and link to each other. In this tour, we will get to know and understand those 2 aspects of Jerusalem which combine into one fascinating city!
