Catherine C.

Paris, France

Welcome to Paris! I am a qualified art historian, but also an award winning professional portrait painter.

My work hangs in the US Embassy, Paris, the Légion of Honour Museum, international art galleries and private collections worldwide. I have spent my whole life studying art, from a Masters degree in art history, to the Ecole des Beaux Arts and exhibit in the historical Paris Salon. During my studies I practised my craft as copy artist in the Louvre, a place I love and know by heart. Having taken a very similar path to the generations of artists before me, I feel a special connection with the art I present to my visitors.
Don't imagine that my very traditional art training means I disregard modern and contemporary art! I was privileged to learn from descendants of the famous School of Paris and work in one of the last remaining artists studios from that period. I can give insights "from the horses mouth". I do tours of Pompidou centre, MAM and Picasso Museum on request.

I was born and grew up in the UK, came to France as a student, married a Frenchman and now have double French/British nationality and two grown-up sons. Helping my boys through their school years, I discovered a lot about childrens learning processes and have built my childrens tour around sound educational principles.

During the pandemic, with colleagues from the National Guide Federation and the Official Paris Tourism Office/Paris authorities, we worked on developing a series of alternative walking tours to permit the discovery of less-known but fascinating districts of Paris. This is with the aim of introducing local residents and discerning travellers to a new style of visits, far from « over-tourism » I am now offering some of these tours.

A Recent Review of this guide

Catherine provided a wonderful tour of the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Louvre. She took the time to "prep" me with a short talk before entering the exhibit and she gave me a few things to read after. Catherine also paced my viewing of the exhibit very well. She pointed out a few pieces in a room and then left me to view things on my own before proceeding. It was very crowded and not easy to see everything. I highly recommend Catherine as your private tour guide!
