I have a Masters degree in art history and diploma in Theology from the University of Exeter UK. I learnt much of my craft as a copy artist in the Louvre, a place I love and know by heart.
Paris is a city steeped in art and in history. I hope to share my passion for both and show you how each historical era and stage of civilisation is reflected in the work of its artists. Rather than a simple "see the sights" tour, I aim to give you an effortless crash course in art history so you take home lasting knowledge along with your photos and souvenirs. I also lived in Chantilly for several years, another extraordinary place I would love to help you discover.
I was born and grew up in the UK, came to France as a student, married a Frenchman and now have double French/British nationality and two grown up sons. My husband is a published historian and his work has helped me broaden my historical knowledge, especially French history. I am excited to share my enthusiasm with you.
A Recent Review of this guide
Catherine gave my family of 5 a wonderful 2-3 hr tour of the Musee D'Orsay on Jan 3rd. Great communicator. Patient with e-mailing back/forth re: date/times. She was on time and whisked us past long lines (BUY TIX ON-LINE!). She thoughtfully handed out headsets so we could hear her no matter where standing - helped in the big crowd. She is very charming & entertaining. Plus she knows her art history- very knowledgeable (also a painter) My 3 sons (16, 21 & 25) and my husband also loved her tour!
