I love the island of Oahu for all the outdoor activities she offers: hiking, swimming, canoe paddling, etc. But there's more to like about the Hawaiian Islands than natural beauty. The history and mythology of the Hawaiian people captivate locals and visitors alike. I enjoy learning about them and sharing my knowledge. When family or friends visit, I take them around to the places I enjoy (sightseeing, restaurants, activities) or, if time does not permit, I draw up itineraries for them to explore on their own. From President Obama's favorite shave ice stand to hidden waterfalls and spectacular vistas, I will help you discover way more of the island than you could driving a rental car. I speak some Spanish and would particularly enjoy touring Spanish speakers around. ¡Bienvenidos! Les invito viajar conmigo. From your hotel or cruise ship we travel to the Pali Lookout, ascending from sea level to 1200 ft. (365m) in about 30 minutes. Take in the gorgeous views of Windward Oahu and learn the colorful history of this spot. Far below, Likeke Falls flows from a spring in Oahu's lush Ko'olau mountain range. This 1 mile (1. 6km) round trip hike covers a section of the Likeke Trail that includes a cobblestone road built in 1845 and a hairpin curve of the Old Pali Road. Unlike the longer version, which begins at the Pali Lookout, this hike is suitable for younger children and those who have difficulty climbing. Walk through the lush canopy shading this historic trail. Pause and listen to the sounds of exotic birds, but keep an eye out for legendary dwarfs crossing the Old Pali Road! Stop in Kailua Town for a shave ice or other snack, if desired.
Travel by car to the Pali Lookout, site of Kamehameha I's victory over the Ohau Chieftain's army in 1795. After enough time to admire the view from Chinaman's Hat to Kailua Bay, we drive down the Windward side of the Pali Highway. Likeke Falls flows from a spring on the Windward side of Oahu's lush Ko'olau mountain range. Likeke means 'Richard' in Hawaiian, for the hiking enthusiast, Richard Davis, who created the four-mile trail that runs along the base of the Ko'olau range. The hike will take about one hour. Snack in Kailua Town, optional. Heavy rains create muddy conditions on the trail. Guide will suggest an alternate activity if she deems it unsafe. This tour can be customized upon request.
