Born and raised here in Charleston, South Carolina, it is my pleasure to share this wonderful city with our many guests! As a lifelong resident, I decided nine years ago to leave the commercial real estate business for this new venture, as a tour guide for one of the most historic cities in America, Charleston. As the youngest of five boys I am very familiar to many people in this charming city, which become obvious as we walk around, but the numbers of people who greet me by name! Come for a visit and Let's Walk! All my tours can be customized upon request Born and raised in Charleston, I am a lifelong resident! My professional life spawned nearly four decades in the commercial real estate industry right here in Charleston. 9 years ago I pursued my interest in becoming a tour guide and showing off my beautiful, historic home town. I am certified and licensed as a tour guide by the City of Charleston, which means I passed a rigorous exam as well as keeping current with continuing education required by the city to remain certified. As one of the four wealthiest of the original thirteen colonies, it's important to understand the role played by Charlestown(Charleston after the American revolution) in the birth of a nation. Culturally, we must examine the role the slave trade played in the growth and wealth of this city and the entire region. As we explore the old city itself, and the plantation we visit, the role of the enslaved will become very important. Born and raised in Charleston I bring a unique perspective to our tour and share a locals view of our long history and the impact various events do to shape our city from the first settlers to where we are today. I am one of those people who has "never met a stranger " and you will find me to be relaxed and easy to communicate with and eager to share my hometown and answer your questions! This place that I am so very lucky to call home is an incredible pleasure to showcase! As a licensed and certified tour guide with the city, I passed a rigorous exam, and continuing ed is ongoing!
We will begin at a point to be determined ahead of time. This can be at your downtown hotel or at a predetermined address or historic monument or house museum. *We'll explore downtown by car and on foot(optional), and discover the many charms and beauty of this early colonial city. This should take anywhere from one to two hours. * Includes stops at Rainbow Row, Four Corners of Law, High Battery Wall, White Point Gardens as well as churches and historic houses and house museums. *Then we drive to the plantation and explore the beautiful grounds and where possible the building that still exist. We'll learn about life in the 17-1800's at a leisurely pace. * Learning about the life on the plantation reveals the incredible contributions of Enslaves Africans not only on the plantations agriculture, but also the making of bricked to be used to build buildings there as well as in Charleston! Then return back to town at a destination determined by you! About 5 hours.
