The Angel Oak Tree is one of the most celebrated trees in the Lowcountry. Foresters estimate its age to be about 400 to 500 years old. That means it germinated before the United States was united. The trunk is 9' diameter, 28' circumference, half acre of shade, with branches as large as other tree trunks. Arborists have been said to weep upon seeing it. We will then tour the Walled City of Charleston. During this tour you will see among other buildings the Nathaniel Russel House that was built in 1808 by a wealthy shipping merchant, it is an example of Neoclassical American houses. The interior of the house has been restored to its original grandeur and it is surrounded by formal gardens. Visit this house with me and travel back in time!
We will drive to Johns Island, roughly 20 minutes to the Angel Oak. Once at the Oak we can tour the property, take photos, roam, and enjoy nature on one of Charleston's Sea Islands. Upon return to Charleston we will tour: -Rainbow Row -South of Broad -High Battery & Waterfront -visual tour Fort Sumter & Fort Moultrie -Exchange & Provost Dungeon -Old Slave Mart -Dock Street Theater -Colonial Churches & Graveyards -Cotton Barns & Brothels -Taverns & Wharfs -Graceful gardens You will be dropped off at your hotel or another convenient location. Tour can be customized upon request.
