A journey into Spain's History and Arts through two unique locations
Overview of your Madrid tour
In this tour we will visit two of the most intersting monuments that you can find in the outskirts of Madrid and also, two of the most representative ones in terms of Spanish History and Art. This two monuments are located at the feet of Guadarrama Mountains, at only one hour from Madrid. The Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo was commissioned by king Philip II in the 16th century when Spain was at the top of it's Empire. The Monastery is still active nowdays and there we can visit it's very impressive church, it's spectacular library, the Royal Palace and of course it's magnificent Royal Pantheon, where most of the kings of Spain are buried since the building of the Monastery. The Valley of The Fallen is located only 9 km/ 5, 5 miles from San Lorenzo and was built right after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) by Franco to honour the fallen soldiers during this war. The monumen is really impressive, formed by a subterranean church completly excavated in the mountain and crowned by a massive cross.
Your Madrid tour itinerary
- Pick up at your accommodation and drive to the village of San Lorenzo del Escorial where the Monastery is located (1 h) - Visit to The Royal Monastery of El Escorial: guided tour in the monument visiting the King's Court, the Library, the Church, The Chapter Houses and the main gallery, the Royal Pantheon and the Royal Palace. - Drive from San Lorenzo to The Valley of Cuelgamuros (15') - Visit to The Valley of Cuelgamuros: guided tour in the monument visiting the subterranean church and enjoing the views and natural backround that sorrounds the monument. - Drive back to Madrid and transfer to your accommodation. This tour is not avaliable on Mondays because the monuments are closed
