Starting in Madrid we will drive Nort-west to get, in around 50 minutes, to the village of San Lorenzo del Escorial where the unique Monastery stands. This Monastery was commissioned in the 16th Century by the powerful King Felipe II. You will get to know all the history about it visiting the Basilica, Library, Monks Chapters, Royal Residence and of course the Mausoleum. The Monastery is now one of the UNESCO sites in Spain. After that we will drive to the Valley of the Fallen, this huge construction built to commemorate Spanish soldiers who died during the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939). The amazing Basílica de la Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos is carved into the mountain and leaves no one indifferent. The tour will finish back at your hotel in Madrid.
Amalia and Antonio ( driver) were wonderful. Nice relaxed, but detailed tour that covered all the highlights. Not only did she cover all the details about the sites we visited but she patiently answered all my questions related to historical ( and current) events. Obviously experienced and knowledgeable with clear and detailed explanations of what we saw. Would definitely do other tours with her and highly recommend her.
Amalia was absolutely fantastic! She made everything so interesting that I would hire her for a tour of anything from a national monument to a grocery store. She and her professional driver, Jorge, were prompt for our tour of El Escorial and El Valle de los Caídos. Amalia was knowledgeable about those sights, as well as about the areas and landmarks we drove past. She was also well-versed in the history and political dynamics of Spain, clearly explaining controversial issues and events. Highly recommend!
