Peter — Your Guide, Host and Driver. No Worries. Kia ora, I’m Peter—a fourth-generation New Zealander, born and raised in Dunedin, in the deep south of the South Island. I moved to Auckland in 1990 and have called the city home ever since, although you can never quite take the South out of a southerner—especially when an Otago sports team is playing! After many years running small businesses, I understand the importance of reliability, personal service and, above all, keeping the customer happy. As your private guide and driver, my job is to make your day relaxed, interesting and completely free of unnecessary stress. I love introducing visitors to the New Zealand I know: our landscapes, history, culture, coastlines and everyday way of life. I’ll share the stories behind the places we visit, along with a few local opinions and plenty of good humour—but I won’t overwhelm you with a rehearsed commentary. My tours are personal and flexible, with time to stop, explore and enjoy the places that interest you most—and I love a mission! Recent tours have unexpectedly taken me to Costco, Pak’nSave and across Auckland in search of a particular speciality shop. That’s the beauty of a private tour: listening to what my guests need, adapting the day and getting it done. Having lived in Auckland for more than 35 years and now also spending much of my time in beautiful Northland, I can show you both the well-known highlights and the quieter places that many visitors never discover. Away from guiding, I enjoy walking, fishing, boating, music, travel and time with my family. Exploring countries such as Brazil and Japan has also helped me appreciate what travellers value when they are far from home: a friendly welcome, local insight and someone dependable looking after the details. Whether we’re discovering Auckland, travelling through Northland or heading farther afield, you’ll be welcomed with a warm smile and a genuine “haere mai.” I look forward to showing you around. A perfect combination of urban exploration and natural beauty, showcasing Auckland’s vibrant cityscape and the rugged charm of its west coast beaches. Muriwai has always been my West Coast beach of choice. With its dramatic black sand beaches and crashing surf, it offers an unforgettable experience for visitors seeking a raw, untamed connection to nature. The gannet colony, perched on the cliffs, adds an extraordinary wildlife aspect to the visit, while the surrounding trails and viewpoints provide ample opportunity to soak in the rugged beauty. The two coast lines of New Zealand couldn't be more different. The black sands and wild ruggedness of the west versus the white sands and calmer turquoise waters of the east coast create a striking contrast that perfectly encapsulates the diversity of New Zealand’s landscapes.
Peter is an outstanding guide. Very knowledgeable about New Zealand in general and Auckland in particular. He was generous with his time and flexible regarding sites to see and things to do. His car is clean and comfortable and quiet. We recommend him without reservation. A 5 star guide for sure!
I had a great experience with Peter. He seemed to intuit what I wanted to see. Beaches, shopping, gardens, parks and a micro- brewery for lunch. We saw it all. I really enjoyed going to the Gannet rookery. We then finished the tour with ice cream. Thanks for the emergency pit stop, Peter!
Peter did an excellent job of providing a tour that avoided duplication of sites we had previously seen. We got to visit areas both in and outside of Auckland including areas on the western side of New Zealand.
Arrived exactly on time at my hotel pickup. Riding through the day to some unique and definitely off the beaten path destinations around Auckland with Peter was like being with an old friend. From visiting an authentic local art shop to gannet rookery, it was a laid back day wonderful day.
It was a pleasure to spend the day with Peter touring Auckland. We had been to Auckland several times in the past on other NZ tours, but he took us to quite a few places that we had not been to and when we stopped, he was very flexible on how much time we spent. For example, friends with us are bird photographers and when we got to the gannet colony, we spent a LOT of time.
Peter showed us many monuments and natural wonders. The Gannets were amazing and the mix of activities gave us a well rounded experience. We could not have seen so much on our own.

A jewel in the crown of Auckland City • Muriwai Beach: We now head to the West Coast and experience this breathtaking black sand beach and the famous gannet colony (seasonal). • West Auckland Hospitality: A stop for wine or beer tasting or a lunch at a boutique vineyard or micro brewery. • Drop-off: Back to town to your accommodation or designated location.

My Subaru Outback is the quintessential Kiwi lifestyle vehicle. It is in excellent condition, safe, comfortable and equipped with modern technology and safety features. The Outback can carry up to four passengers, although with four guests this does mean three people seated across the rear seat. For half-day and one-day tours this is generally quite workable, depending on the size of the passengers, but it may be less comfortable for longer touring days. For groups of four or more, I can provide a late-model Kia Carnival for an additional US$200 per day. The Carnival can carry up to seven passengers plus the driver, although at maximum capacity it would naturally be quite full. For a comfortable day on the road, I would recommend the Carnival for groups of four or five passengers.
