Welcome to Riga! I grew up in Australia in a Latvian family, and when I came to Riga 25 years ago I fell in love with the place and never left! It's a place of stunning beauty (whatever the season - there are parks galore), fascinating history (did you know the guy who invented blue jeans came from Riga?), intriguing food (try the garlic rye bread or the hemp butter), sensational beer (I'll point you towards the best brewpubs) - and it is a joy for me to share it with visitors from around the world. In my 25 years here, I've worked as a journalist, a translator and for the last six years a tour guide. So telling stories is my thing, and there are lots of amazing ones in Latvia! Let me introduce you to the romantic, medieval cobblestone streets of the Old Town, the magnificent Art Nouveau buildings on the boulevards, delightful old wooden houses, freaky Soviet structures and much, much more! Please check out my tours, and if you like I can customize one to suit you perfectly. And please let me know if I can help in any other way. Looking forward to seeing you, Philip. Just 50 km east of Riga, Sigulda is a natural paradise that soothes the souls of city slickers! On this tour, we explore the awesome landscapes of the Gauja National Park, legendary castles and the world-class bobsleigh track. We discover the famous love story of the Rose of Turaida, visit the enchanting Folk Song Hill and savour a traditional Latvian lunch.
I will pick you up from your hotel in Riga or Jurmala. We drive via Riga to Sigulda. Our first stop in Sigulda is the bobsleigh track to enjoy spectacular views of the Gauja National Park. If the tour is on the weekend, you can also go down the run on a "soft bob. " After that, we will visit the ruins of medieval Sigulda Castle and the lovely restored Art Deco interior of the adjacent manor house, Next we drive to to the river valley and see the legendary Gutmana Cave and discover the love story of the Rose of Turaida. Then we head to Turaida Museum Park for the restored medieval castle and Folk Song Hill with its sculpture garden. On the return to Riga or Jurmala, we will have lunch in "Raganas ķēķis", a traditional tavern.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
I will drive my VW Passat. Please see the gallery for photos of the vehicle.
