Travel back in time as you explore the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, founded in 1924 — one of Europe’s oldest and largest open-air museums. More than 100 authentic buildings from the late 17th century to the 1930s, relocated from Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Zemgale, and Latgale, are displayed across 87 picturesque hectares on the shore of Lake Jugla. Discover the traditional houses filled with period furniture and everyday objects revealing Latvia’s rural heritage. Open all year round, the Museum is most vibrant from May to September. In the quiet seasons, you can enjoy the serene beauty of autumn leaves, sparkling snow, or early spring blossoms just 30 minutes from Riga. Annual folk art fairs and festive solstice celebrations bring traditions to life. We will end the tour with a hearty Latvian meal at the authentic “Priedes krogs.” Not suitable for persons with limited mobility or with a wheelchair. All my tours can be fully customised.
I will personally pick you up at an agreed meeting point in Riga, and together we’ll enjoy a comfortable 30-minute drive by private car to the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum. Enjoy a private guided tour through centuries of Latvian history and culture, surrounded by authentic farmsteads and scenic landscapes. After exploring, you will have the possibility to enjoy a traditional Latvian lunch at the charming “Priedes krogs” located within the museum grounds. We’ll then return to Riga, with drop-off at your preferred location in the city center.
