Welcome to Riga! I grew up in Australia in a Latvian family, and when I came to Riga 25 years ago I fell in love with the place and never left! It's a place of stunning beauty (whatever the season - there are parks galore), fascinating history (did you know the guy who invented blue jeans came from Riga?), intriguing food (try the garlic rye bread or the hemp butter), sensational beer (I'll point you towards the best brewpubs) - and it is a joy for me to share it with visitors from around the world. In my 25 years here, I've worked as a journalist, a translator and for the last six years a tour guide. So telling stories is my thing, and there are lots of amazing ones in Latvia! Let me introduce you to the romantic, medieval cobblestone streets of the Old Town, the magnificent Art Nouveau buildings on the boulevards, delightful old wooden houses, freaky Soviet structures and much, much more! Please check out my tours, and if you like I can customize one to suit you perfectly. And please let me know if I can help in any other way. Looking forward to seeing you, Philip. Riga's Old Town is a jewel of architecture, from Gothic cathedrals to Baroque residences and Art Nouveau apartments. A walk through these lovely cobbled streets is a journey through history, discovering how people have fought, loved, celebrated life and overcome misfortunes through the centuries. On my tour, I'll share this fascinating history with you, and tell you about the "Baltic gold" amber, the world's first Christmas tree, the famous Cat Houseand much more. And you'll discover the bubbling life of Old Riga today, with its atmospheric cafes, exciting restaurants and joyous beer gardens all to enjoy!
We'll stroll through the timeless streets of Old Riga, experiencing beautiful buildings and the stories they share. St. Peter's Church and its legendary tower, Doma Cathedral and its famous organ, the House of Blackheads and the world's first Christmas tree. The Cat House and its rebellious spirit. The Three Brothers ensemble, the exquisite Opera House, the Freedom Monument, and much more!
