Explore Nairobi your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Nairobi tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Nairobi for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Join a sunrise game drive in Nairobi National Park to watch giraffes and lions with the skyline in view. Your guide can time visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant nursery and the Giraffe Centre, or lead a shaded walk to Karura Forest waterfalls if you prefer a quieter morning.

Layover tours: Get picked up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and fit in a quick game drive in Nairobi National Park or a combo of the Giraffe Centre and the elephant nursery, with drop-off back at your gate. Your guide manages tickets, luggage, and traffic so you make your next flight.

Adventure tours: Hike the Ngong Hills ridge for big views, or head to The Forest in Kereita for ziplining through the trees. If you have a full day, try whitewater rafting on the Tana River near Sagana or mountain biking among steam vents and cliffs in Hell’s Gate National Park.

Getting around: The city is not very walkable between sights, and public transit is informal. Chauffeured tours with private transportation are common, and your local guide can arrange a comfortable car to keep you on schedule.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Nairobi inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Nairobi

From Nairobi, plan easy day trips to nearby parks, Rift Valley lakes, and small towns so you see more wildlife, landscapes, and daily life without long transfers. Private tours keep timing flexible.

- Nairobi National Park: minutes from the city, you get a classic game drive with chances to see lions, rhinos, giraffes, and plains game against the skyline, and it fits a tight schedule since early morning and late afternoon are prime hours. If wildlife viewing and photography are your focus, your tour can be timed for low light and quieter tracks.

- Mount Longonot National Park: a 2-hour drive puts you at the crater trailhead, where a steady climb leads to sweeping views across the Great Rift Valley and a rugged rim walk if you want more. Choose this if you like hiking, fresh air, and a straightforward challenge that still leaves time for a late lunch in Naivasha.

- Hell’s Gate National Park and Olkaria Geothermal Spa, Naivasha: you can cycle or walk past zebras and gazelles between cliffs and volcanic towers, then soak in the warm mineral pools for a relaxed finish. It suits an active day with simple logistics, and your tour can include bikes and a safe route plan.

- Lake Naivasha: take a boat ride to spot hippos and fish-eagles, then enjoy lakeside gardens and open views that feel far from the city. If birds, easy wildlife viewing, and a calm pace sound right, Naivasha town has boat operators and lunch stops that keep the day smooth.

- Amboseli National Park: it is a longer run, but the elephant herds and views toward Mount Kilimanjaro make the hours worth it, with open plains that are great for clear photos. Pick this when big wildlife is your priority, and your tour can use a 4x4 for comfort on corrugated sections.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Nairobi most travellers miss.
