Trastevere and its Undergrounds - Express Walking Tour in Rome

Would you like to explore Rome as it looked a few centuries ago? Just narrow, cobbled streets lined with medieval houses? Then come discover the bewitching Trastevere district strolling from Piazza Trilussa. Trastevere is named after its location "beyond the Tiber". Separated from the centre of Rome by the river, the area retained its narrow streets and working-class population when the rest of Rome began to expand in the nineteenth century. Despite being a major tourist destination, it has preserved a strong local (and "Roman"!) identity. On ths tour we'll visit the main basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere and admire its amazing mosaic façade and the works of art inside it. Besides this, we will visit two churches with an incredibly ancient history and descend into their underground rooms. You will realize that Rome's past lies beneath the surface: ancient houses, places where martyrs sacrificed their lives for the faith, are still there, waiting to be discovered.

·Our tour will begin in Piazza Trilussa, not only a square but the name of a street that connects to the other street we will continue walking towards in the tour: Via del Moro. ·Next, we will reach the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere. ·Our tour will continue towards Piazza San Callisto. ·We'll then pass by another Basilica, that of San Crisogono, and visit its undergrounds. ·Our tour will actually finish in another Basilica, that of Santa Cecilia, where we'll also explore its undergrounds.
