Rome is great but after a few days spent here you might want to escape its hustle and bustle and recharge the batteries. Here's a perfect solution: Tivoli! A place that attracted emperors and cardinals, artists and poets. Just a 40 min drive from Rome, Tivoli still offers a shelter for beauty-seeking travellers with its two UNESCO sites. Hadrian's Villa is a spectacular archeological site, a testimony of one of the most intriguing Roman emperors. Introvert and ambitious, Hadrian did exceed in the lavishness of his private residence the notorious Nero. Numerous banquet halls, fine mosaics, exotic marble slaps, exceptional sculptures, and even a subway for slaves (!) Hadrian's Villa blew the mind of its discoverers. Among them Michelangelo and da Vinci. But also an influential cardinal Ippolite d'Este who took the villa as a model to create his own paradise in the 16th century. Hundreds of fountains still launch jets of water using natural gravity only. A real triumph of water!
- I'll pick you up at your hotel and we'll drive to Hadrian's Villa (40-60 min drive), where we'll be walking among its beautiful ruins. Not only they reveal Rome's great past and unveil the life of emperors, but also provide with spectacular views and an enchanting atmosphere. - After that we'll go to Tivoli town. We can get some snacks there or if you like, have lunch in one of the best Italian restaurants, situated directly at a 2, 000 year old temple. "Sibilla" hosted kings and queens and still keeps its level, providing quite a moderate price list. - Our final destination will be Villa d'Este with its 16th century frescoed Palace and marvellous fountains. It's incredibly beautiful and refreshing on hot summer days. No surprise the Villa hosted so many prominent guests, talented artists. You'll make a lot of pictures on this day trip and will come back home with a bunch of unforgettable moments. Please note this tour can be customized. Use the 'message guide' button to contact me.

We'll go to Tivoli and its main destinations by car. A professional driver will bring us in a Mercedes class vehicle with air-conditioning. Inside the villas we'll walk. I recommend you put on comfortable shoes, as both sites are quite big. There's some climbing to be done in Hadrian's Villa and steps in Villa d'Este. Somewhere we can save energy using an elevator, but somewhere we'll have to take the stairs. Anyway I keep the pace comfortable for you, so you can enjoy it best.
