Ciao! Let me introduce myself: I am Silvia P. a licensed tourist guide of Rome and Vatican City. I am class '74 I am married and I have a 10 years old son. How does it get better than that? Visiting the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel is on the agenda of every tourist to Rome so it will always be very full and very busy. Our experience with Silvia made it so much easier as she channeled our way through the crowds to the more important pieces where we spent informative time and could appreciate what we were seeing. The Vatican is overwhelming visually in terms of the vast amount of artwork, statues, and other artifacts. Silvia is knowledgeable and does a great job in keeping you focused on the highlights. There is no way to tour the Vatican satisfactorily without a guide in my opinion. Take Silvia's advice. Go early! If you can manage to get up early then plan to be there by 7:30 to be admitted with the first groups.
Silvia took us through the Vatican for what I can say was the best tour I have had. I've been through the Vatican several times, with guides and without. She approached it uniquely. She spent time in the beginning shaping the art to Roman and Vatican history, politics and art. She helped us focus on the pieces and artist that were important to our understanding of Roman and Vatican culture and art. Often the amount of art can be imposing but Silvia had a way of explaining and prioritizing it. I've already used her again. She made this visit the most knowledgeable and enjoyable of our stay.
