The Appian Way and Villa of the Quintili

Valentina is an archaeologist who is very enthusiastic and takes great pleasure from sharing her in depth knowledge. We were a family of 6, 3 generations, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed and learned a great deal from her tour of The Appian Way. We would all highly recommend Valentina!

Valentina took us on a tour of the Basilica of St. Clement, Appian Way and the Villa of the Quintili. We have been to Rome before, but this was an exciting and new way to see Rome, with areas we have never seen. She was very knowledgable and passionate about the subject matter. Also very accommodating, we really enjoyed our afternoon with Valentina!

Valentina was excellent. My friend and I are archaeologists, and we were both very happy with her level of knowledge (though you certainly would not need extensive background knowledge to enjoy the tour--she explains everything very clearly). And her English is excellent.

Our family of 4 was so fortunate to have Valentina guide us through archaeological sites where she has spent years working. Her first-hand knowledge of the significance of the unearthed structures and materials made for an amazing learning experience. Valentina explained building techniques and helped us imagine how these places looked and felt 2,000 years ago. Importantly, her empathy for ancient Roman ways and means suited our perspective perfectly.

Our tour of the Villa dei Quintili and Via Appia Antica with Valentina was without a doubt an amazing experience. You would be hard pressed to find anyone more knowledgeable and downright passionate about these incredible sites or Roman history in general. Our time with her passed by so quickly! I would have loved to have more time with her to talk history and listen to her stories. Don't hesitate to book a tour with Valentina, I think it will be one of the highlights of your time in Rome.

Valentina and I had a great half-day on our customized tour starting from outside the Catacombs of St. Callixtus and walking up the Appian Way, past the other catacombs that are open to the public and to the Villa of Maxentius, the Mausoleum of Cecilia, and Capo di Bove. I toured with Valentina in the spring and was so happy she was available to tour again on my return. She is so knowledgeable about Ancient Roman sites, Ancient Roman archaeology, and the Appian Way, and is very personable and flexible.
