Hello and thank you for taking the time to take a look at my profile! I am an officially licensed National Tour Guide (plus Vatican city licensed) with an art history bachelor's degree and I truly love to share my knowledge and passion for this magnificent country. As well as being a true Roman (born here and lived here most of my life) with an in-depth knowledge of what this unique city has to offer, I am fully fluent in English since I have also lived many years in the U. K. First in Cambridge where acquired my bachelor degree followed by a loving time in London for a total of more then 10 years where I also acquired much experience in the tourism field. I am also half Swedish from my mother's side which makes me not only fluent is Swedish but the perfect bridge of cultures between the northern Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian and the passionate Latin ones. Since my return to the eternal city I have acquired the official license as a tour guide which allows me to legally practice throughout this wonderful country and the Vatican city. Since 2022 I have also started working as one of the office tour guides for the American Embassy in Italy based here in Rome. Through this collaboration I have had the privilege and honor of touring with many political figures such as Ambassadors, Senators during their State Visits. It was true a personal privilege touring with Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House during her State Visit in 2022. I live in the Trastevere neighbourhood which is the most authentic of all full of romance and history…. the real soul of Rome! With over thousand of years of history, you never run out of things to see in what once used to be the "caput mundi" or 'capital of the world'. We will enter the Vatican Museums first before the daily crowds start and enjoy all there is to see of this stunning and unmissable location. This tour includes the Museums and the Sistine Chapel focusing on the main attractions. From the Sistine chapel we will have a SPECIAL DIRECT ACCESS to the Basilica of Saint Peter's- we will visit the main highlights of the Basilica and we will end the tour in the beautiful square of Saint Peter. We sadly did not get to meet Mathilda as she suffered heat stroke just before our planned tour. She quickly reached out and found a replacement. Giovanna was our guide and she was top notch! We are so grateful she could step in. She was a pleasure to be with-so warm, engaging, and enthusiastic!
We stayed in Rome for 3 days and then got on a cruise ship. This was the best tour we did for the 2 weeks we were in Europe. Mathilda was informative but didn't give you too much information. It is nice going to the Vatican with someone who knows what she is talking about. If we are ever in Rome again, I would pick Mathilda for our next tour
Mathilda was excellent. She knows so much history that the tour was a joy, and she really knows the Vatican museum.
This tour was remarkable for so many reasons! First off, Mathilda was an amazing guide and communicator for our family group of four. From our first moments together when she secured us a place in line ahead of a very large and loud tour group, it was apparent she was going to do everything she could to make our experience a memorable one. It was incredibly fun zipping in and out of the crowds with her, while still having enough time to absorb so much of the history and beauty of the Vatican museums. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and architecture. She also knew a few hidden gems and "secret" passages which truly elevated our experience. Passing through the Holy Doors, open only during the Jubilee year, was simply the icing on the cake. We will definitely seek out Mathilda for future visits, and highly recommend her!
We had the most amazing time touring the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Pantheon with Mathilda.What really stood out was how warm and friendly Mathilda was she instantly made us feel comfortable and welcome. Her English was absolutely perfect. Not only is she super knowledgeable, but she has a great way of explaining things that makes all the history and art feel really exciting and easy to connect with. The Vatican can be a lot to take in, but Mathilda knew exactly how to guide us through it without it ever feeling rushed or overwhelming. She pointed out so many fascinating details we never would have noticed on our own, and her stories behind the artwork especially in the Sistine Chapel really brought everything to life. If you're planning to visit Rome and want a meaningful, relaxed, and fun experience, don’t hesitate to book a tour with Mathilda.
Once again a great experience with Toursbylocals. The Vatican was absolutely packed. We got in quickly with our guide. She took us to the most important parts and had excellent commentary throughout. She spoke perfect English was on time and very professional.

Shorts are allowed just if they cover the knees. We don't have the same restrictions for the rest of the Vatican; bring with you a scarf of a jumper to cover shoulders and knees when required. The dress code applies to women, men and children. Only small backpacks or handbags are allowed.
