Palazzo Colonna: one of the oldest and largest private palaces of Rome
Overview of your Rome tour
Its construction began in the fourteenth century by the Colonna family, who still resides there since eight centuries. The stunning Colonna collections of paintings, sculptures, tapestries and furnitures from the 14th to the 18th century are unique and part of roman history. We can feel to be a Prince of a day walking throught the paintings of famous artistis like Guericno, Carracci, Tintoretto, Guido Reni, Bronzino and watching ourself in the mirros of Mario de Fiori. The somptousus halls show us the history of Colonna familiy, and we will absurb the atmosphere trought the hall dedicated to the Pope Martin V Colonna and the gallery celebrating the Marco Antonio Colonna's victory in Lepanto battle. Than the Pio Pavillion with its four rooms are dedicated to the princess Sveva Colonna. The Tour end in the faboulous gardens and the terrace from which we can admire an incredible view of Rome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tours of the Colonna galleries and garden. The garden is serene and elegant even though it is surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Rome. The views of Rome from the terrace are fantastic. The galleries have a marvelous collection of paintings, tapestry and other art work. Raffaela is proud and passionate about her subject matter, history and culture and did an excellent job of teaching us about the art work of the masters in the galleries and the history of the Colonna family.

Palazzo Colonna is an astonishing collection of paintings, carvings and tapestry that covers a sizeable part of Italian history. Raffaela wove the role of the church, the lores of the times, the lives and the works of the artists and the Colonna family's contribution to Italian history beyond art, into a very impressive narration.
