The Appian Way, once the largest and fastest road in the ancient world, can be seen as the "highway" of its time. Parts of its original pavement have survived, and along its route, we find evocative remnants of ancient constructions: tombs, funerary monuments, and suburban villas. As we explore, we'll admire the impressive Roman aqueducts, which were built to bring water from distant springs to the city of Rome. We will also delve into the fascinating world of the catacombs—vast underground cemeteries stretching for miles. During our visit to a Christian catacomb, we'll uncover the early Christian symbols that decorated the walls. Set in a peaceful landscape that blends history and nature, we will learn about various aspects of Roman civilization, including their defensive techniques, burial customs, road systems, and advanced hydraulic engineering. We will immerse ourselves in Ancient Rome, experiencing it like true locals.

Walking along the Via Appia Antica is a refreshing change from the city. In ancient Roman times, no one was allowed to be buried within the walls of the city. While pagan Romans were into cremation, Christians preferred to be buried. Highlights: - Aurelian Walls 271-277 A.
