Overview of your Rome tour
Frascati is probably the most famous town in the Castelli Romani area. I have a special connection to this place as my wife's family is originally from here! This means I know it well and would love to share it with you. Did you know that every Pope since 1600 comes to "rest" here during the month of August? Or that where the lake now stands was once the site of an active volcano? This day trip is designed for those who love good food, wine and medieval villages! Let's go!
Your Rome tour itinerary
- We meet at your location and begin the tour of Rome's countryside. We will arrive at the most interesting destination just outside Rome, Frascati. - Once we have reached the main square, you will be greeted by the sight of by Villa Aldobrandini, an imposing 1500s Villa which dominates the town, hovering above the main square. The Villa is not opened to the public since it is a private Villa, still owned by the Aldobrandini family. - After will stop for lunch (not included in the tour price) in a typical restaurant, suggested by me or free time for lunch on your own. - After lunch I will drive you to Castel Gandolfo is home to the Pope's summer residence which overlooks the volcanic lake. Those who visit in the summer months may have the opportunity to take part in either the Pope's Papal Audience on Wednesday, or his Public Blessing on Sundays. - The duration of your afternoon will be spent sightseeing here before your return to Rome. Please note this tour can be customized.
