Hello, my name is Alessandra and I was born and grew up in Rome - a true local! I graduated in 1995 with a degree in Art History and have worked in art communication ever since. In developing didactic projects I've collaborated with Universities, Museums and Government Agencies. Most importantly, I spent several years at the MACRO (Museo Arte Contemporanea Roma) followed by even more years at the Trajan Markets (Imperial forums Museum). So, as you can see my interests in art range from the far past to the immediate present. For the past seven years I've worked as a private tour guide and I love it. I believe a walk through Rome is a walk through time, from the earliest settlement on the Palatine to the still busy artisan neighborhoods, from the Christian churches to the Jewish Ghetto. I specialize in tailor-made tours for first time or repeat visitors seeking more in depth knowledge of the city. I enjoy working with families and children and have had great experiences with tourists who have mental or physical disabilities as well. ". . only in Rome do you really get to know Rome. . " J. W. Ghoethe Italian Journey, 1786-1788. Strolling through this ever surprising city aided by maps, drawings, photos and writings of each historical period, we'll penetrate and truly experience Rome! I am licensed tour guide of Rome with a degree in Art History . I spent several years at the MACRO (Museo Arte Contemporanea Roma) followed by even more years at the Trajan Markets (Imperial Forum Museum) In December 2018 I successfully completed the course: "Fundamentals of Extraordinary Tour Leading" I can organize a customized tours (full day or half day) with luxury private car and driver. The Appian way, the largest and fastest road of its days, can be considered the High-way of Ancient time! It still preserved part of the original pavement and around it are evocative remains of the old constructions: tombs, funeral monuments, suburban villas. We'll see one of the best preserved parts of the Aurelian Walls. We'll admire the massive structures of the Roman aqueducts, built to take the water to Rome from the surrounding springs. We'll discover the fascinating world of the catacombs: underground cemeteries consisting of several miles of tunnels. We'll visit a Christian catacomb and unfold the symbols of the early Christian Iconography. In a peaceful landscape surrounded by history and nature we'll learn aspects of Roman civilization closely linked to the life in the ancient city: defensive techniques, funeral rites, roads system, and hydraulic engineering. Aided by maps, drawings, photos and writings of each historical period, we'll penetrate and truly experience Ancient Rome as true local!
Walking along the Via Appia Antica is a refreshing change from the city. In ancient Roman times, no one was allowed to be buried within the walls of the city. While pagan Romans were into cremation, Christians preferred to be buried. Highlights: - Aurelian Walls 271-277 A. D. - Saint Sebastian Gate - Catacombs of St. Callixtus - The Ancient Appian Way - The Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella (outside) - Roman Aqueducts Note: the itinerary may change due to traffic in the city. ATTENTION: -Inside the catacombs themselves we will be joined by the internal guides due to regulations that require management of the tours to be entrusted and supervised only by internal staff. - On Wednesday instead of the Catacombs of Saint Callisto we will visit the Catacombs of Santa Domitilla.
