Caravaggio, born in Milan in 1571, arrived in Rome in the late 1580s and stayed until 1606. We explore the district where he lived and worked, discovering stories of his life, his extraordinary technical skill, and the revolutionary nature of his art. Along the way, we visit his most important masterpieces, still housed in the original churches for which they were commissioned. In Santa Maria del Popolo, we admire The Conversion of Saint Paul and The Crucifixion of Saint Peter. In Sant’Agostino, we see the moving Madonna of the Pilgrims. We conclude in San Luigi dei Francesi, where we discover the famous cycle of Saint Matthew, Caravaggio’s first major public commissions in Rome. A true genius, he transformed the representation of nature and the human figure, marking a turning point in art history. I will guide you through his life and reveal the stories behind his masterpieces.
