I still remember the first time I saw ancient statues, I was in the Vatican Museum and I was a child. Those marble giants were not just silent witness of their time but it seemed like I could hear their voices talking to me from the past. Was it that a decisive moment in my life? Probably it was! Since ancient times Capitoline Hill was a focal point of Rome. It was where all the historical memory and Roman law were bound and for this reason Capitoline Hill was always felt crucial by the ancient society. Consequently, in the Middle Age the palace built on top of the Roman one became, as in an obvious transfer or power, the City Hall! And still it is. Since 1471, by order of Pope Sixtus IV, Capitoline palaces became a museum, too. The first Public Museum in history and Rome's museum par excellence. Since then the collections have been added becoming vast with unique and incredible pieces such as the Emperor Marcus Aurelius' colossal bronze statue for which it has been created a special set up with a transparent ceiling. During the visit, from the Roman structures facing us the Tabularium and an unforgettable Roman Forum view! You'll be at the top with Rome's glory at your feet!
