The Borghese Gallery represents what was inevitable for an aristocratic family of the sixteenth century: combine in one place the natural beauty of a large park, a small richly decorated palace, a magnificent private art collection where ancient statues and mosaics staid close to the most famous contemporary artists. Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V, created this just outside the city walls: not only masterpieces of the past but the best names of the Baroque had the privilege of being admired by the rich and highly selected guests: Raphael, the "divine", Caravaggio, the painter who revolutionized the way of painting and Bernini the sculptor who first represented all the feelings in marble. Visiting this gem in the heart of Rome will be like going back in time discovering a collection that still amazes guests as when it was created.
