Walking along the Via Appia Antica is a refreshing change from the city. In ancient Roman times, no one was allowed to be buried within the walls of the city. While pagan Romans were into cremation, Christians preferred to be buried. Highlights: - Aurelian Walls 271-277 A. D. - Saint Sebastian Gate - Catacombs of St. Callixtus - The Ancient Appian Way - The Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella (outside) - Roman Aqueducts Note: the itinerary may change due to traffic in the city. ATTENTION: -Inside the catacombs themselves we will be joined by the internal guides due to regulations that require management of the tours to be entrusted and supervised only by internal staff. - On Wednesday instead of the Catacombs of Saint Callisto we will visit the Catacombs of Santa Domitilla Note: the itinerary may change due to traffic in the city.
