Traveling is my passion, as it is talking to people to share stories and emotions. After spending 10 years working and traveling across Europe I eventually decided to come back to Sicily. Why? Goethe once wrote "Without Sicily, Italy creates no image in the soul: here is the key to everything". Sicily is a land of emotions: wonderful art, ancient history, delicious food and breathtaking views. As different travelers have different interests, I love to tailor-make the tours according to what travelers are willing to experience, so that to turn each tour into a truly, unforgettable experience. Visit three colorful street markets and enjoy local street food! You will experience, with me, a day like a Palermo citizen! I have been running this tour for 10 years and, being an economist, you will get some fundamental insights to understand the evolution of the city, its culture and its people. Ballarò is the largest and most ancient in Palermo, of Arab origins: where colors and smells and the vendors' screams fill in the air. Founded by the Arab-Muslims when they ruled over Sicily, it looks like a suk, the typical Arab market. Capo lies behind the largest opera house in Italy, Teatro Massimo. Carini Gate, which opens along the ancient city walls, salutes everybody entering this lively market. We will enjoy a street food tasting in Palermo, a special pizza at a trattoria in the mountains, and the best Sicilian cannoli in Piana degli Albanesi, a town also in the mountains. We will conclude the day with a non-structured wine tasting at the best wine bar in Palermo.
We really enjoy touring with Georgio. He is just so knowledgeable and answers all of our questions. He introduces us to the specialties of the area, and he is fun to spend time with. We are so happy to have booked him for our total time in Sicily!
This tour was exceptional and if you want to do Palermo street food and history, go with Giorgio! He is prompt, courteous, safe, speaks English well. He'll take you to clean hygienic food places -some of those street vendors are "questionable". He'll take you to a little mountain village for unique local pizza and another where you'll think you went to Heaven because the cannoli are SO good! He loves history makes it interesting and fun. Wish we could give him 10,000 stars!
We spent 10 days in Palermo including Christmas and New Year's Eve. There were 8 of us from 21 to 81 years old . We booked 4 tours with Giorgio. He made our Palermo trip unforgettable. He was super knowledgeable and did an amazing job. The restaurants at each tour were great He also gave great recommendations for restaurants and things to do when we didn't have a tour booked.Book a tour with him and you will not be disappointed! We spent 3 days with Giorgio touring in and around Palermo. He spent lots of time education us regarding the history of the island and its people. He give a fascinating history of the Mafia, its origin, connection to the New York Mafia and many stories about the leaders and what was done to control their influence. Giorgio was lots of fun to spend time with and made Sicily come alive for us.
Giorgio did a fantastic job conducting our custom tour to Piana d Albanese. It is clear he had done his homework to become familiar with a town not normally visited by tour groups. Giorgio included a companion Stephano who was very knowledgeable about the history of the area which enriched our experience. He arranged for us to see a cannoli making demonstration and arranged lunch at an excellent local restaurant. My wife's ancestors are from that town and Giorgio made it a special day.
I highly recommend Giorgio for a day in Palermo! We did a food and market tour. I wasn't expecting to see highlights of the city also, which was a nice surprise. He was very knowledgeable about his city's history and enjoyed showing us. I really enjoyed the lunch in the mountains which allowed us to sample some authentic cuisine and gave us the opportunity to see the views of the city from above.
