I hold a degree in architecture from the University of Palermo. After my graduation, I moved to the United States where I attended a course in Interior Design at the New York School of Visual Arts. After many years in Boston and New York where I worked for several architectural firms, I have returned to Sicily, my native land, and now lead cultural tours in Palermo and beyond. This tour offers my historical-artistic and cultural traditions knowledge. I am an architect who has combined love for art and love for my land. We begin in front of the Teatro Massimo, Palermo's Opera House. We then walk through the Capo and Ballarò, two of Palermo's historic markets, to discover most of the ingredients that are used in Sicilian cuisine. Along the way, we visit sumptuous Baroque churches, built in the wake of the Counter-Reformation, to attract believers through emotions and theatricality. You'll see how their exuberant decorations are also reflected in the colourful and sensual historic food market. Of course, sampling Palermo's best street food will also be a priority! Our exploration of Palermo's markets involves gastronomic stops to sample some of Palermo's best street food and local wine. Art food and wine in Palermo are connected by culture, atmosphere, and history.
Cetty was an amazing guide. We highly recommend her. Our tour of Palermo combined everything we like in learning about a new place... food, culture, history, and amazing insight into the people of this wonderful town. Cetty was equally great about giving thoughts for how to get the most out of our two days in Palermo. So not only did we have a terrific time on her but it provided a foundation for the rest of our stay. We highly recommend Cetty!
We had the most wonderful morning with Cetty--especially the two markets she took us to. While Ballarò is the bigger and more famous market, Cetty took us to Capo, the market she shops at, and we loved it. My only regret is that we booked this food and wine tour for the morning--after we had eaten a very large breakfast--so missed out on trying all the amazing looking Sicilian delicacies.
Cetti was most knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Palermo. The food sampling in the market was most informative and entertaining. We had nice sampling of local foods but no wine experience at all. The tour was very good but should not be advertised as "food and wine" experience. Would recommend her as a tour guide.
Cetty Spoto is a very profession guide. Her facts were interesting and relevant, but more importantly, she wove them into a story. She explained things in a way that was fun and interesting. As an architect she understood how buildings are put together and taught us to read the details of a building to understand the culture that created them.
