Hello everyone and welcome to Palermo! My name is Mauro, I was born and raised in Palermo, and I truly love sharing the beauty, history, atmosphere, and soul of my city with travelers from all over the world. I am passionate about art, theatre, architecture, history, and everyday local life. When I visit a place, I always look for what makes it unique and meaningful — not only monuments, but also people, colors, traditions, hidden details, and atmosphere. This is exactly the approach I bring to my tours. Palermo is a city of extraordinary contrasts and cultural influences. Here, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East meet in a unique way, creating an atmosphere you will not find anywhere else. My goal is always to create experiences that are interesting, engaging, enjoyable, and personal — never just a list of dates and monuments. I want you to truly experience Palermo, not simply visit it. I have been an official licensed Tour Guide in Sicily since 2014 and an official Trip Leader since 2010. I hold a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Palermo and a Master’s degree from the University of Udine. I lead tours in English, German, Spanish, and Italian, working with travelers, luxury hotels, and international companies from all over the world.

Discover the heart of Palermo through its UNESCO World Heritage monuments, hidden streets, markets, and extraordinary mix of cultures. During this private walking tour, I will introduce you to the fascinating history of the city and show you how Europe, Africa, and the Middle East have blended together in Sicily — especially here in Palermo. You will experience this atmosphere everywhere: in the narrow streets of the historic center, in the Arab domes of Christian churches, in the colorful markets, in the architecture, and in the everyday life of the locals. This tour is designed for travelers who want more than monuments and dates: stories, traditions, beauty, contrasts, and the authentic soul of Palermo. I am a licensed local guide born and raised in Palermo, passionate about history, art, architecture, and Sicily’s unique identity. My goal is not simply to show the city, but to help you truly feel and understand it.

Our three-hour walking tour of Palermo with Mauro Amato was terrific. Mauro is a Palermo native who knows his city extremely well. He took us to several places that were away from the large crowds and that are only known to those who grew up in Palermo. His English is very good, and his knowledge of Palermo history is first-rate. He is also very personable and has high energy.
Perfect way to start our Sicily adventure! Mauro is an exceptional guide- adapting the itinerary to fit our interests and pace, engaging everyone in our family, sharing a wide breadth of knowledge in an interesting way - plus having a good sense of humor. Born and raised in Palermo, he brings a local perspective and love of his city, and insights about where to further explore, eat, etc. It was well worth splurging for a private guide . If you are lucky and Mauro is available, book him!
This is our first visit to Palermo - from friends we were recommended to book Mauro Amato for a guided tour of the city - we were lucky to book him for the morning of our first day in Palermo and what an experience we had! Mauro is a truly expert of Palermo and he is just a very nice personality which deliver his guidance in a pleasant and informative manner - we had never been able to find the many hidden gems he took us to, and he blended this with taking us to selected sightseeing highlights - all delivered and nicely wrapped in their historical context. Great thanks Mauro and keep up the amazing work you deliver to great many visitors to Palermo!
Great tour guide with fantastic local knowledge and a great city to explore
November was the perfect time to visit Palermo Sicily! Excellent knowledge on museums and art, as well as balancing requested bookstores located throughout the city of Palermo area. Kind of like a needle in a haystack, we did not find the book and instead found lots of options. We had an interesting fun filled time with our guide Mauro Amato, on our mother/daughter adventure in Palermo Sicily.
