Shalom, I'm Daniel and I look forward to introducing you to Israel. I am a local - I live in Jerusalem, I was born in Haifa and my parents and all four grandparents lived in this country before me. But an added ingredient that may help me to help you to understand and appreciate Israel is that I have an international perspective. I have visited the USA many times as well as many other parts of the world. I have children (and now grandchildren) living in sunny California and rainy London as well as here near Tel Aviv. I was educated in London and Cambridge and I lived and taught and worked in the UK for decades. So I speak fluent British English - the King's English! Formerly a copyright lawyer, a teacher and a university lecturer in English literature - my Cambridge doctoral degree is on Gulliver's Travels - I am now delighted to have qualified as a tour guide, licensed by the Israel Ministry of Tourism. On the tour guide course we learned so many topics: lots of geography, geology, theology, archaeology, religious and secular history, scripture, current affairs, economics, and many other kinds of facts. But the facts are just the starting point. In my studies and my work with tourists I have learned that the best guides love this unique and complex country, welcome our visitors, appreciate why you have come and what you are seeking, and have insight and enthusiasm as well as knowledge to share. That's me! Having taught for many years I hope I can help you learn something about the history and the many cultures of this fascinating holy land. But even more important - I am going to make sure that your tour will be a memorable, spiritual, meaningful and fun experience. Israeli Tour Guide Licence 22,379 Cambridge University PhD and MA degrees Qualified UK Teacher I do not have the special vehicle and licence required in Israel to drive tourists. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for you to engage a duly licensed driver and car. I do not work on the Sabbath nor on Jewish holidays.

The fortress (the meaning of the name Masada) towers over the lowest point on earth, the valley in which Genesis tells us that the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. I have never forgotten my first visit to the site of Herod's palace and the last stand of the Jewish rebels against the Romans - nor will you forget yours. And I never tire of returning because the story, the archaeology and the view are all stunning. After visiting Masada we visit the Ein Bokek beach first for lunch (food not included in tour cost) and then to dip in the Dead Sea and shower off.
- We will begin by driving about 2 hrs from your Jerusalem hotel to Masada. - We will spend roughly 2 hrs at Masada. - Next it's on to Ein Bokek beach for lunch and to dip in the Dead Sea and shower off. - Finally we will return to Jerusalem which is about 2 hrs drive time. Please note: time available depends on your priorities, traffic, tour start time and national park closing times. You will need: sunhat, sunblock, comfortable walking shoes with socks (I do not recommend sandals), a large bottle of cold water. Plus curiosity, some patience, and a little spirit of adventure. If you plan to dip in the Dead Sea please beware: I advise not to shave for two days beforehand since any cuts in your skin will sting from the super-salty water (as will your eyes from any splashes). Wear an old swimsuit since the chemicals in the salty water can discolour fabric. Tour can be customized - click 'message guide' to contact me for a customized tour.
