At 6:30am on Saturday morning October 7, 2023, the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launched a massive, coordinated surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip with the launching of thousands of rockets into southern and central Israel. Using bulldozers, vehicles, and paragliders about 3,000 terrorists breached the Gaza-Israel border fence at multiple points. Severe atrocities and massacres took place in residential communities, 1,200 people were killed, the majority civilians, 364 young people were murdered at an outdoor music festival near Kibbutz Re'im, Hamas abducted 251 people, including children, elderly citizens, and soldiers, dragging them back to the Gaza Strip. It marked the deadliest day in Israel's history and triggered the ongoing Israel–Hamas war. My tour tells the history from 1943 of the Gaza Envelope, Jewish settlement within Israel close to the border with Gaza and the tragic events of Oct 7th. The places we visit will tell their story and we will bear witness and pay our respects.
These are the places I will take you to bear witness starting at Givat Kobi the overlook point into Gaza from the city of Sderot. From there we will visit the destroyed police station and the Garden of Heroism & Remembrance monument built on the site. We will visit these additional sites: destroyed cars at Tkuma Shuva Achim rest stop past Kibbutz Sa’ad Nahal Oz commemorative lookout dedicated to the female IDF surveillance soldiers Kibbutz Be’eri Nova festival memorial site past Kibbutz Re’im Kingfisher roadside bomb shelter past Ein HaShlosha, Nirim, Kibbutz Nir Oz Ofakim
