I have lived, laughed, loved and lamented in Jerusalem for over 20 years. I feel at home in her alleyways and markets and I know all of her stories and most of her secrets. Originally from sunny London, England, I came to Israel after graduation, in order to follow my childhood sweetheart. I can find my way around the country using the bible or a map. I can show you the castles of knights and the palaces of kings, the battle grounds of yesterday's wars and the context of today's debates. I can tell you how a man votes (or in some cases doesn't), by looking at the hat he wears (or in some cases doesn't). I have brought up my own children to know and love Israel and enjoy taking other children on the same journey of enrichment and discovery… and sometimes just plain fun. I am also one of only a small group of tour guides to receive accreditation from the Ministry of Tourism as a specialist in wine tours around the country. So if you are interested in learning some more about this subject and visiting some of the vineyards and wineries, do let me know. A fabulous day out where nature, archaeology and history intersect. Drive through the beautiful Judean desert where we will visit the desert fortress of Masada and hear it's gripping story. Walk in the springs of Ein Gedi where David hid from Saul and float in the salty waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth.
-We drive to the fortress of Masada, about 90 minutes from Jerusalem, via the scenic shore of the Dead Sea. -A cable car ride brings us up to the summit where we learn about the important figures who lived there and why, discover the mystery and marvels of the mountaintop and the impact it has on the Israeli psyche. -After a break for lunch, we continue to the oasis of Ein Gedi. As well as enjoying its natural beauty, dipping in the springs and spotting the wild goats and rock rabbits, we will also explore the biblical connection. -To end our day, we will head to the beach and the unique experience of a dip in the saltiest of waters, the Dead Sea. -We then drive back to Jerusalem. If you would like a more luxurious experience, after Masada we can head to one of the hotels for lunch and use their spa facilities and private beach. There will be an extra charge for this option.
