Antonio Barluzzi, an architect and devout Catholic, was sent to Israel/Palestine by his older brother in 1914 to design and build the Italian hospital and a church just north of the Old City. Barluzzi became so connected to the Holy Land that he spent his whole life in Jerusalem (the same has happened to some tourists). Barluzzi built more than a dozen churches in the Holy Land, each one a gem and on this tour you'll learn about them and see the ones in Jerusalem. Barluzzi was a very accomplished architect and sensitive to the history of the site where he built. It was important to him that the architecture he created evoke in the visitor the emotion and story that the church commemorates. This is an opportunity to walk the streets of Jerusalem and experience the splendor of Barluzzi's creations. Many people feel moved at a spiritual/religious level.
Depending on time and interest we will see some of these Barluzzi churches: Church at Italian hospital (exterior) Church of Flagellation Church of Agony Dominus Flevit Franciscan chapel in Holy Sepulcher The tour can be extended to include Visitation church, Ein Kerem Shepherd's Field, Bethlehem
