Dublin Familiarisation and Trace Your Roots

Half day tour intended to be used to help trace the roots of Irish visitors. Obviously this can take quite some time and preparation may be required beforehand by the visitor. Dublin's national archives are very useful and they can be sourced online. I once tripped over a "tree root" in an old cemetery while searching for an 18th century headstone with a guest couple from the US. The "root" turned out to be the top of a sunken headstone and would you believe of the hundreds there it was just the one we were looking for. The gentleman cried taking pictures and he was able to show his great grandson the gravestone of a gentleman 8 times removed from the boy. It was a hugely emotional experience.

Half day tour at the request or requirements of the visitor. It would be great to have some detail of names with dates of ancestors that left Ireland. Apart from these details I will familiarise guests with as many sites as possible. I often use the information beforehand to research areas where ancestors may have left. I would find out if there are remains of old homesteads or if local churchyards have gravestones of deceased relatives. I have had several occasions where I have been able to link US guests with family in Ireland of whom they had no previous knowledge. This kind of tour can be so rewarding!
