A voyage of discovery, to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Brú na Bóinne, an enormous complex of 5, 000 year old tombs. If you love history & archaeology, this will be among the most memorable days of your life! And if you think you don't like history and archaeology, prepare to discover that you do! The highlight of today's tour is a visit to Brú na Bóinne, including the spectacular Stone Age tombs of Newgrange and Knowth. These tombs are the pinnacle of Stone Age monument building in Ireland, and are among the finest anywhere in the World. They are celebrations of engineering, astronomy, and the human experience! This tour also touches on the history of Dublin, from the War of Independence in the 1920s, back to the arrival of the Vikings in 842AD. We will see the finest carved stone Celtic Cross in the world, dating from 923AD, and your choice of a Norman castle built in 1172AD, Royal Tara (seat of ancient Kings of Ireland), or the Battle of the Boyne site (1690). Be back in Dublin in time for dinner!
*All aspects of this tour can be customized. *This tour takes about 8 hours. We can depart at any time up to about 12 noon, but I suggest a starting time of around 9am to ensure we are back in Dublin in plenty of time for you to relax before dinner. *Traveling by private limousine, our first stop is the spectacular Stone Age complex of Brú na Bóinne. *After that, we move on to the Early Christian site of Monasterboice, and finest Celtic Crosses in the world! *Our final visit for the day will be your choice of Royal Tara (seat of ancient High Kings of Ireland), Trim Castle (built in 1172AD), or the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre, which explains the battle of July 1690 and the effects which are still felt today! Trim Castle and Royal Tara are outdoor visits, so in wet weather I recommend the Battle of the Boyne centre. *All sites have rest rooms and cafés nearby, as well as pub food or a fine hotel for more elegant tastes.
