Run away from crowded places! Get off the beaten tracks! you probably heard this hundreds of times. . . Well, not always true. Specially if you are not planing to come back to Paris. Despite being one of the most popular places to visit travelling to Paris, specially during summer weekends and Tuesdays, it is, still, an enjoyable and pleasant ride, even for me, that I've visited this place several hundred times. Yes, I've been guiding in Versailles since 2006 and it is a pleasure to plunge into that era to make you understand the beauty of those buildings and gardens. Basically we will cover everything, from politics and economy to anecdotes and characters, from architecture to fashion and etiquette, from fine arts to common crafts and manufacturing. Indeed Versailles has multiple readings, I enjoy to navigate through them according to what you feel like.
Gustavo picked us up in his nice van and was very conversational. He has an interesting take on Versailles, history, culture, etc. which we found refreshing. We did a full day tour but spent too much time drinking coffee early on and eating lunch soon thereafter (not our agenda). We also didn’t spend as much time in the palace because it closed earlier than he thought it would (30 mins). I think we could have done as much in a half day.
Spent two days with Gustavo and could not be happier with our tours. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Paris / France, and especially art. Our tours felt customized based on our interests and pace.

Awesome tour. Highly recommend Gustavo. Very knowledgeable and great tour guide. We have been to Versailles before but our kids had not. Best way to see Versailles and bring it to life.
Strongly recommend the full day tour to Versailles in order to see it all. Gustavo is the guide you should engage. His knowledge of the palace and the historical events surrounding it is outstanding and made the tour a complete success. Long day for sure but Gustavo breaks up the day providing for lunch and rest. Suggest you wear good shoes as you'll do a lot of walking. Cannot say enough good things about Gustavo's tour and have no hesitation recommending him to others. Book Gustavo!
Gustavo was an excellent guide!! Extremely knowledgeable in French history and speaks English perfectly! Very flexible with our group as we had a 2yr old and a baby. Highly recommend this tour and guide!
- Pick-up at your hotel or apartment in Paris around 9 AM. Then we head to Versailles in approximately 20 km drive. - I've booked in advanced skip-the-line tickets which are scheduled at a specific time to avoid the individual's long entrance lines. - We'll visit the state apartments and the interior of the palace. - Then head out to the breathtaking landscapes of Versailles gardens. From April to October, it is possible to see the water fountain show in the gardens on the weekends and some Tuesdays. - Then we will stop for lunch with three possible options: restaurant, brasserie, and if the weather conditions are favorable we can arrange a picnic in the park, in front of the magnificent canal. - The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, Queen's Hamlet in the afternoon, and you will be back at the hotel around 5 PM. However, this is a suggested itinerary that can be customized according to your preferences. Just feel free to contact me if you want to customize your tour.
