Access to the monument platform will be available only via stairways. The completion of the service is estimated for May 2027. IMPACTS ON THE EXPERIENCE: · Visits to the Christ Monument became much lengthier and are now taking 3.5 to 4 hours on regular days and up to 5 hours on busy days, even for those who have pre-purchased tickets online. · Visitors without reduced mobility should also be aware of the physical effort required for the route.

Overview of your Rio De Janeiro tour

Come to visit the city that the Portuguese Royal Family took as your second house 200 years ago and left behind it a beautiful history. Petrópolis is a city in Rio de Janeiro state. It is also known as The Imperial City of Brazil. Nestled among the forested hills, in the valleys of the state of Rio, Petrópolis is a popular summer holiday spot. Besides the climate and surroundings, the main attraction is the former Summer Palace of the Brazilian Emperors, which is now a museum, specializing in Imperial history. In the 1830s, the area of modern-day Petrópolis was little more than farmland. When Emperor Dom Pedro I went through there on his way to Minas Gerais, he was struck by the scenery and decided to buy some land. Dom Pedro returned to Portugal soon after and the land was passed to his son, Dom Pedro II who built a summer retreat. Soon a palace was built along with mansions and a cathedral, giving it the nickname, "The Imperial City". It's beautiful scenery. * This tour does not operate on Mondays

It was fun to see all the sites related to the former monarchy and to learn about the early aviator Santos-Dumont, who I had not known about before. Daniel was very personable and informative. His English is excellent. The only negative is he was late due to car troubles and his phone wasn't working and we had to call the 'help line' to make sure he was coming. It turned out he was about 30 minutes late. The day was rainy and cold, untypical for Brazil in early August, but otherwise the trip from Rio to Petropolis was very good.
