Start / pickup in Brussels (hotel, railway-station, . . . ) Ride to Hurtgen Forrest (Germany). (if time left - closed at 05. ppm) Henri-Chapelle, WW2-US Cemetery.
The Battle of Hürtgen Forest (German: Schlacht im Hürtgenwald) was a series of battles fought from 19 September to 16 December 1944, between American and German forces on the Western Front during World War II, in the Hürtgen Forest, a 140 km2 (54 sq mi) area about 5 km (3. 1 mi) east of the Belgian-German border. It was the longest battle on German ground during World War II and is the longest single battle the U. S. Army has ever fought. At the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium, covering 57 acres, rest 7. 987 of our military dead, most of whom lost their lives during the advance of the U. S. armed forces into Germany. Their headstones are arranged in gentle arcs sweeping across a broad green lawn that slopes gently downhill. A highway passes through the cemetery. West of the highway is an overlook that affords an excellent view of the rolling Belgian countryside, once a battlefield.
