Hi, my name is Peter and I was born and raised in Flanders (fields) Belgium. I am a professional private guide and driver in Belgium since 2014 and was a NCO (1th Sgt) in the Belgian Army/Airborne and for 20 years in the Army reserve. After my active duty, I was a salesman and worked in France and Germany. I am fascinated by military history combined with my collection of military vehicles and armory. In 2014 I started guiding. We would also have nice walks around places of interests and in pedestrian areas, and take a lot of pictures ! I enjoy sharing our local legends and historical accounts. This Battle of the Bulge tour gives you a general overview on the Battle for Bastogne. The German Lines of Attack and the American Lines of Defense. Guide PETER shows you the actual battlefields , foxholes , bullet holes which still remain today. We visit the sites of the 101st Airborne Division and follow Patton's trail into the city hereby using lots of original photo's and personal accounts that were given to me by the veterans themselves. We visit the woods where Easy Company of the 506 PIR was dug in , talk about Team Cherry , Team Desobry and Team O'Hara, and others … This tour highlights the men who fought for our freedom. Those brave men who paid the highest price for freedom … We will walk in their footsteps!
Your Brussels tour itinerary
We meet at your hotel in Brussels at 08. 20AM and leaving Brussels in our car/minibus/midbus at 08. 30AM. We have to drine 2h to BASTOGNE and our 1st stop will be at KESSLER'S FARM where Germans delivered the ultimatum to surrender and received McAuliffe's brief reply! Following a drive true the center of the town to BASTOGNE BARRACKS to visit the WWII-Vehicle-restoration center and viewing some exceptional tanks as the German Panther & KINGSTIGER. . . the American Sherman, Abrams, Bradley. LUNCHtime in the center of Bastogne. AfternoonTour starting in the footsteps of A. Hitler + visiting "Le Mess", the 101st airborne museum Le Mess in Bastogne is one of my favorite museums. Driving to the other site of town, we will visit the mount Mardasson-Memorial, founded on the initiative of the Belgo-American Association, was inaugurated on the 16th of July 1950 in presence of General Anthony McAuliffe, acting commander of the 101st Airborne Division defending Bastogne.
